Some CAL's & KAL's for the rest of 2025 that you might not know about!
Andrea ClementsShare
We are often spoilt for choice when it comes to Crochet Alongs (CALs) and Knit Alongs (KALs) but don't always know where to find them because there are so many! I thought I would put together a list of a few (well maybe a few more than a few) that are running for the remainder of 2025.
So what is a CAL or KAL?
Crochet Alongs (CALs) and Knit Alongs (KALs) are events where participants work on the same pattern (or themed set of patterns) over a set period of time, typically guided by a schedule with weekly or bi-weekly releases of the pattern parts. These events are hosted online or in-person and are designed to be both social and supportive.
Whether you're a beginner looking to build confidence or a seasoned crafter seeking community and creative spark, CALs and KALs are a fun, social way to enjoy your craft and complete beautiful projects together.

Crochet Alongs (CALs)
A Crochet Along (CAL) is a structured group project where a crochet pattern is released in sections—such as rows, squares, or motifs—over a number of weeks. Everyone starts at the same time and works through the project together.
Features:
- Step-by-step pattern releases, often weekly
- Hosted by a designer, blog, or brand
- Community sharing via Facebook, Ravelry, or Instagram
- Free or paid patterns (or both)
- Focus can range from blankets and garments to seasonal items and home décor
Benefits:
- Learn new techniques with guidance
- Share progress with others
- Ask questions and get real-time help

What Is a Knit Along (KAL)?
A Knit Along (KAL) follows the same format as a CAL but uses knitting instead of crochet. Like CALs, KALs often focus on sweaters, shawls, socks, or blankets, and are released in parts (called "clues" in Mystery KALs).Features:
- Clue-based releases (especially in mystery KALs)
- Supportive knit communities through Ravelry, Discord, or dedicated forums
- Designer interaction via live sessions or Q&As
- Technique-focused themes, e.g., brioche, cables, lace
Benefits:
- Encourages completion of larger projects
- Improves confidence in pattern reading and finishing
- Connects knitters around the world
