Enjoy the mindful rhythmic nature of weaving. Connect to your art through texture and colour. All materials included.

These workshops cater heavily to both complete beginners and seasoned crafters who want to slow down, disconnect from daily stress, and immerse themselves in texture.

20th February 1.00 - 5.00

40 Geelong Road, Portarlington.

Come along to an afternoon of mindful art weaving. Learn the basic weaving techniques of the Rigid Heddle Loom.

The Rigid Heddle is a type of loom that a weaver can produce hand made cloth on.

Please note though this may appear to share some similarities with tapestry weaving they are not the same. Rigid heddle weaving is a different technique and produces a different type of cloth (generally referred to as a balanced or plain weave).

Looms and materials are provided! And students will get to keep their finished fabric art.

Come along with a creative interest and a love of fibre and get lost in the rhythmic nature of weaving.

Students will be encouraged to take their time with the weaving process and connect to the colours and textures of the fibres. They will be taught basic weaving techniques and some extra techniques that can create interesting textures.

Weaving naturally lends itself to a therapeutic, non-judgmental headspace. The repetitive, over-under motion of passing a shuttle through the warp threads encourages a steady breathing pattern and anchors you to the present moment. By focusing purely on the touch of the raw wool, cotton, or natural fibers, the mind lets go of external stressors, turning the craft into an active form of meditation.

Afternoon tea provided.

All finished fabrics will have a maximum size of 25cm width by 50 cm approximately (please note as the workshop is self paced the length of the piece will vary greatly on yarns used and student's weaving styles)

Looms will be pre warped with a neutral base colour.
