Inspiration, to me, is the spark that ignites creativity— something that compels you to make, build, or express. It’s about finding joy in what’s around you and letting it guide your hands and heart.
I think you can find inspiration all around you, I am often inspired by colour, experiences, patterns and places. Those elements can evoke memories, emotions, or even a sense of adventure that’s perfect for creativity. When the creative mojo wanes, reflecting on those inspirations can rekindle the passion.
Our recent trip to South America was filled with amazing inspiration…I have come away feeling the need to create! The main image is a painting that we saw at the Convent of Santo Domingo in Cusco, Peru. The Convent was built by the Spanish on top of Coricancha, the Incan Temple of the Sun. It represented the seque system leading from Cusco to the four areas of the Incan Empire. I envisioned this gorgeous painting as the basis of a crochet blanket using a combination of colour and stitches and surface crochet!
The following were wall hangings at different places and I would love to create something based on these using crochet.
Sometimes when you are experiencing the loss of your knitting mojo or your crochet mojo (cromo) you need a little bit of help to find it again so focusing on what inspires you can help!
Whilst on the Galápagos Islands I got up close and personal to some amazing wildlife and now I want to design my own blue footed booby amigurumi, I definitely need one in my life…so watch this space!
Sometimes hearing about others’ creative processes and seeing their work also inspires me—it’s like borrowing a little of their magic to awaken my own.
All of the following pictures I took purely because they inspired me in some way or another!
What I love most is how inspiration can be cyclical and reciprocal, when you share what you’ve created, it can become someone else’s spark.
Have you ever experienced that moment when you see or hear something that ignites a fire within you? That feeling of excitement and motivation that propels you to create something new and unique? What I love most is how inspiration can be cyclical. When you share what you’ve created, it can become someone else’s spark. So, what’s the last thing that truly inspired your cromo?
Sharing your creations with others can have a powerful impact. Whether it's a piece of art, a piece of writing, a new recipe, or a unique invention, putting your work out into the world can inspire others to tap into their own creativity. The beauty of inspiration is that it has a ripple effect, spreading from one person to the next.
Inspiration can come from the most unexpected places. It could be a walk in nature, a conversation with a friend, a piece of music, or even a simple everyday object. The key is to stay open and receptive to the world around you, as you never know where your next spark of inspiration may come from.
Some of the shapes, colours and textures that recently inspired me:
Just like a flame, your creative spark needs to be nurtured and fed in order to keep burning brightly. Surround yourself with things that inspire you, whether it's books, art, music, or nature. Take time to explore new ideas and experiences, as they can help fuel your creativity and keep the cycle of inspiration flowing.
Collaborating with others can also be a great source of inspiration. Working with like-minded individuals who share your passion can lead to new ideas and perspectives that you may not have considered on your own. By joining forces with others, you can create something truly special that sparks inspiration in both creators and viewers alike.
So, the next time you feel stuck or in need of a creative boost, remember that inspiration is all around you. Embrace the cyclical nature of creativity and share your creations with the world. Who knows, your work could be the spark that ignites someone else's passion and sets off a chain reaction of inspiration.
So, what’s the last thing that truly inspired you to create? Share it with others and keep the cycle of creativity alive and thriving!
